Blubber Burn VII

Now in it's seventh iteration, the Blubber Burn Classic is back upon us. The Island's most technical CX race, the blubber burn takes place purely on MTB trails. It is dumb beyond belief and thusly represents the whole sport of Cyclocross perfectly. The race was originally conceived as a way to share the joy of riding terribly ill suited bikes on technical trails. The evolution of the cross bike and the availability of tires has had an influence on the race and since there are no rules in regards to cross bikes, this has made for some interesting equipment choices. It's all part of the fun and many of us have equipment we only use once a year for the race. It's all very silly.

The lowdown:

♥ It's a cross race, so bring your cross bike if you have one.

♥ If you do not have a cross bike, you can race your MTB but it must be singlespeeded (zip ties on shifters ok) AND you will be held back at the start.

A NOTICE TO SANDBAGGERS: IF YOU SHOW UP ON A MOUNTAIN BIKE BUT YOU ACTUALLY OWN A CROSSBIKE, BE PREPARED FOR AN UNGODLY AMOUNT OF HECKLING."

No specific rules apply to crossbikes.

"Race Clothing" encouraged.

We'll meet at the start of Inventive at 11am. We will mark the way to get there and there is a trail map in the parking lot at the end of Hartland avenue. Sign up (Entry fee is 10$. Please try to bring correct change) and do your mandatory prelap.
We will start the race Noonish.
Race for 35-45min, drink a celebratory beverage. Head home with a possible pizza stop at The Brickyard.
$10 to race. Free if you take a ferry

See you on Sunday!
