This ride is very doable on brakeless fixed gears, the gradient is perfect, the scenery is truly awesome and they serve hot dogs at the top. These are essential elements in any fixed gear long distance riding.
I rode a 48x18 for the climb and 48x15 for the descent, using the excellent Miche quickchange system so I only had to carry a lock ring tool. Clay had a flip flop wheel which is an even better idea.
It was an enjoyable ride.
