After laying in bed for 4 weeks with a fractured pelvis following the Astana World Cup, I was finally back on two wheels come the beginning of December and anxious to regain my lost fitness. Due to a greatly reduced range of motion and an inability to weight bear on my left side, the first few training sessions (and I use the word "training" very loosely) revolved more around getting on and off the bike safely, as opposed to actually riding it. However, I stretched, iced, and did physio exercises day in and day out, and was soon riding comfortably for 3+ hours.
Three days ago, I cashed in a one-way ticket to Los Angeles courtesy of the CCA, and relocated to sunny Redondo Beach for the next training phase. I am excited to be back on track (literally and figuratively!) and hope that my recovery keeps progressing and my fitness soon follows!

ReplyDeleteThanks for wearing the socks. Its important for people, elite riders especially, to take a stand on this. Good luck in your comeback.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouragement and well-wishes! My goal is to make the team for Worlds in April, so if everything goes well, I should be in Cali at least until then!
